The Plumtree Project

The Halifax Pop Explosion (HPX) and Mirus Records bring you The Plumtree Project: a new program that gives eight women/people access to private music lessons in either drums, guitar, bass, or keyboard, access to instruments, an improvisation workshop, a wristband for the pop explosion and access to a jam space for two months. The program is named after a band made up of women that played the first Halifax Pop Explosion and for many years onward.

September 15th: Applications Due

October 1st: Applicants informed of acceptance

October 18th – 21st: Orientation at Pop Explosion & Access to the festival

October 22nd – December 22nd: Private Lessons Take Place

November 30th: Improvisation Workshop

January 7th: Participants form two groups

January 15th – March 15th: Access to Jam Space

March 31st: All Ages Performance

  • 18 – 29 years old
  • this program is open to women, trans, non-binary and gender queer people
  • must demonstrate a keen interest in participating in music through application
  • this program prioritizes applicants who are women of colour/people of colour

  • eight weeks of private music lessons
  • improvisation workshop
  • access to the instrument you’re learning for the duration of the program
  • access to a practice space for two months
  • showcasing opportunity at the end of March
